ESPROFILER supports Hybrid Working. We are strong believers that in-person working fosters great collaboration opportunities, and sparks conversations that are often overlooked and missed with pure remote working.
On the other hand, remote working offers great benefits for work-life balance, offers the company more fleibility in terms of who we can hire (not being locked into geographies) and working with the best async practices can increase productivity and reduce overheads on your time.
As such, ESPROFILER operates on a Hybrid Working policy, with some days in the office, and some working remotely at home. Each person will have
ESPROFILER operates out of the United Kingdom, on UK timezone, with core working hours of 10am - 4pm. This means that there is an expectation that all employees are online and available during that period of time. The additional hours you work outside of these is up to you, but should be inline with the amount of hours you are contracted to work.
If you ever need to step away from your machine during this time (which is encouraged as 6 straight hours in front of a laptop isn't going to do you any favours!) just give your colleagues a heads up in the #AFK space on Google Chat.
Office working is recommended to be a minimum of 3 days per week, ideally Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Those employees on a Skilled Worker Visa will be required to be in the office for a minimum of 3 days per week. The exact days are up to you, but it is recommended that these days are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday to align with the recommended office working days for others.
There is no formal dress code for office working, wear what you are comfortable in.
In the office, you have access to a fridge and microwave for your own use. There is free fruit, water, soft drinks and tea/coffee available for you to use. For hot meals and snacks there are nearby shops that you can easily walk to.
You are encouraged to work from home if it suits you. For those that work far away from Manchester, this will be your normal practice. Trips up to Manchester are encouraged, and should be done so on a semi-regular basis (arranged with your manager). Please also read our Travel to Manchester Guide for tips on arranging that.
Its advised to separate work and private life as much as possible. With less of a physical barrier, it's more important to create this barrier on the digital world. Turn off notification outside of your intended working hours for email, Slack, and GitHub where possible.
The core idea of async working is to boost productivity by reducing interruptions for deep work, offering better work-life balance, which conequently creates clear documentation and seamless knowledge sharing.
On a simple level, asynchronous practices enforce that you write everything down, and document thoughts and dicussions in a central, public forum so that others in the company can follow along, as well as pick items up should you not be available. You can read more about how we enforce this at ESPROFILER in our Communication section.
